Specification
R Lewis were asked to provide structural steel fire protection services to a high-profile project in Wiltshire for Willmott Dixon contractors. The material specification required the fire protection of structural support members to provide a 60-minute rating with and final top seal application. This was achieved using intumescent coating systems FX1003 with the finishing top seal M71V2 supplied by Sherwin Williams.
Solution
The project faced challenges due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Many of the contractor’s teams had been pulled away from site, however R Lewis were able to access the site to carry out spray coating applications across a substantial area of the structural column and beam sections. These specialist treatments were completed while ensuring that all Government health and safety procedures were followed to protect the sites workforce.
The recent good weather also allowed the R Lewis team to extend these areas of structural steelwork protection so that as much of the works as physically possible could be completed. It is now hoped that by being able to work with the main contractor during this difficult period will go some way to reducing the overall impact of the situation faced by all, when construction works are able to resume in earnest.
