Construction of the £252 million Avonmouth Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) site began in Summer 2017. The centre will use safe, environmentally sustainable, and reliable technology to divert around 320,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste away from landfill. R Lewis Provide Structural Steel Fire Protection for High Profile Project in Wiltshire During Challenging Times for All
R Lewis were asked to provide structural steel fire protection services to a high-profile project in Wiltshire for Willmott Dixon contractors. The material specification required the fire protection of structural support members to provide a 60-minute rating with and final top seal application. This was achieved using intumescent coating systems FX1003 with the finishing top seal M71V2 supplied by Sherwin Williams. Read more>
88 Windsor Road Penarth – Mixed Use Development
We were tasked with providing fire protection to the basement car parks slab supporting structural steelwork.
The project is a mixed commercial development with units on the ground floor including a gym and 12 flats above ground floor, with an underground car parking area.
The construction sites welfare facilities were set up in the basement car park under much of the steel to be protected and as a result we were asked to provide a suitable coating specification that could be used to provide the necessary environmental and fire performance without the need for relocation of the welfare buildings. Porthcawl Watersports Centre Fireproofed
Rest bay Watersports Centre in Porthcawl has been built as part of Brigend County Borough Council’s “Portcawl Resort Infrastructure Focus” project. This £1.5m state of the art building was constructed by Henstaff Construction Limited. Its stunning design encompasses sustainability and practicality, whilst giving visitors full access to beautiful coastal views.
The centre includes a cafe, ice-cream kiosk, toilets, showers and changing cubicles as well as a function room.
R Lewis worked closely with Henstaff Construction to ensure the building was fireproofed to the highest standards without affecting the aesthetics. Read more>
Redevelopment of Taff Vale Shopping Centre
Work has started on the redevelopment of the former Taff Vale Shopping Centre in Pontypridd, Wales. The site will become a new library and leisure hub and will also include the new Headquarters for Transport for Wales, with an estimated scheme value of £40 million. Read more>
ICC Fire Protection Project
Lewis & Co (UK) Ltd, working closely with our coatings supplier International Paint, set about providing the best system and cost competitive intumescent coatings package for work to be carried out on the prestigious International Conference Centre (ICC) in South Wales.
The project started in January 2018 as an 55,000 m2 intumescent paint project using with International 2060C and Interthane 990, but it soon expanded to cover many other of our fire protection services. Read more>
Kier Construction – Aerospace Bristol Concorde
Aerospace Bristol, situated in Hayes Way, is a new £19m museum that will tell the amazing story of Bristol’s world-class aerospace industry and give visitors the chance to step aboard a British icon, Concorde Alpha Foxtrot. ‘After initial contract negotiations with Willmott Dixon and agreeing a suitable environmental fire protection specification for the structural steelwork; we were awarded the intumescent fire protection package at Ysgol Glan Clywd comprehensive school in St Asaph. Read more>
Newport Office New Build Protected from Fire
Working in collaboration with the Midas Group, R Lewis and Co (UK) Ltd completed the required specification for fire protection on the steelwork which included sprayed applied coating systems, fire stopping installations for up to 60 minutes and soffit lining works. Read more>
Somerset Historic Artefacts Protected from Fire
Somerset County Council needed an environmentally controlled archive storage facility for its Heritage Centre. The £5.7m development project involved the construction of 2 two-storey buildings which were specifically designed to house historical artefacts and documents, which are both stored and restored on site, as well available for public viewing.
